Daily Flow (Ages 3–6)

Multilingual. Multisensory. Rooted in Safety, Joy, and Becoming.

Morning Arrival & Nature Grounding

  • Children arrive barefoot and free, welcomed in Sign Language.
  • Breathwork, sensory walks, barefoot grounding, quiet play.
  • Emotional check-in through the “Emotion Garden” (choosing a flower to represent their feeling).
  • Multiple languages naturally present through greetings and sensory invitations.

Seasonal Circle Gathering

  • Led primarily in English (or teacher’s language).
  • Weather reflections, seasonal songs, storytelling, movement.
  • Emotional anchoring to the rhythm of the natural world.
  • Sign Language used alongside voice to support all communication modes.

Outdoor Exploration & Inquiry

  • Open-ended exploration across gardens, trails, sensory stations, natural construction zones.
  • Spanish-speaking, French-speaking, and English-speaking teachers present — offering prompts, questions, or simple modeling.
  • Real-world science inquiry happens naturally (observing insects, making mud, noticing water flow, asking questions, building structures).

Three subjects might happen at once:

  • Science (investigating a worm)
  • Art (building a mud sculpture)
  • Language (storytelling about the ant’s journey)

All led by different teachers in their own languages.

Nourishment & Mindful Eating

  • Shared healthy snacks.
  • Mindful reflection invited (“What did you taste?” “How do you feel?”) through Sign Language and gentle conversation.
  • No forced silence—calm connection is encouraged.

Music, Movement, and Arts Activation

  • Multilingual immersion continues naturally.
  • Singing, drumming, rhythm games, cultural songs, expressive dance.
  • Language depends on the leading teacher (Spanish, French, or English).
  • Sensory-motor engagement through joyful full-body participation.

Physical Play & Brain Activation

  • Climbing, obstacle courses, cooperative challenges.
  • Growth mindset language infused (“Try again!” “Feel your balance!”) in the teacher’s primary language.
  • Gross motor development tied to brain growth, executive function, and embodied self-trust.

Storytelling & Emotional Literacy

  • Story sessions in French, supported with dramatic gesture, sign, and movement.
  • Multisensory storytelling fosters deep language acquisition and emotional resonance.
  • Students are free to listen, act out, or create spin-off stories.

Rest & Integration

  • Mats and calming stations available.
  • Some children nap, others draw, build puzzles, journal, or reflect quietly.
  • Self-regulation tools like weighted objects, breathwork, and guided visualizations offered.

Life Skills & Community Contribution

  • Daily tasks like gardening, folding, feeding animals, preparing snack.
  • Functional Spanish language immersion during tasks.
  • Building autonomy, contribution, and connection to the larger “ecosystem” of the school.

Wonder Workshop: Science & Discovery

  • Dedicated time (some days) for science provocations, experiments, or nature investigations.
  • Led in English or Spanish depending on the teacher.
  • Open-ended questions: “What do you notice?” “What happens when…?”

Again, multiple subjects could arise:

  • Engineering (building a mini dam)
  • Biology (observing plant growth)
  • Chemistry (mixing substances to see reactions)

Identity Play & Portfolio Time

  • Children reflect and express through art, dramatic play, mirror work, journaling.
  • Teachers guide Identity Portfolio documentation in students’ dominant or choice languages.
  • Emotional vocabulary and self-narrative building are foundational.

Closing Circle

  • Always ends with Sign Language as the connecting thread.
  • Gratitude song, movement stretch, emotional check-in:
    • “Today I felt…”
    • “Tomorrow I hope to…”
  • Students choose their goodbye gesture (hug, wave, special sign).

At The Canopy School, learning is a living rhythm—rooted in the body, expressed through the soul, and nourished by language, wonder, and love.
